Baikal ice drumming

Things have been quiet around the blog lately, so to break the silence I bring you this video entitled “BAIKAL ICE live sound”. It features Russian percussion group ETHNOBEAT making awesome music with the ice of Lake Baikal in winter.

The opening text reads: “Baikal story…it began millions of years ago.” The text that pops up around 0:15 says: “On March 18th, 2012 members of the ethnic percussion studio of Irkutsk Technical University ‘ETHNOBEAT’ made an expedition to Lake Baikal to record the sound of the ice, literally playing on blocks of ice.”

A few members of our team are planning to visit the lake this coming March. Perhaps while sampling for plankton they can record some sweet Baikal beats of their own…
